Nicolò Merusi – Game Designer and Developer
Questions & Answers
Tell us about a little about you.
My name is Nicolò Merusi, I’m 33 and I live in Parma, Italy.
I worked as a developer of websites and mobile applications on my own and for some companies of my city. Now I work part time for a company here, following and leading the development of a B2B app for them, and the rest of the time I work for Albedon Wars.
I am a board games and card games passionate, but in the last years I mainly played only one game called Game of Thrones The Card Game, of which I am 2017 and 2018 Italian National Champion, and finished 3rd at 2017 World Champion.
I love animals (I have 2 cats and 1 dog) and I used to play many different sports when I was younger.
How long have you been working in the games industry?
3 years
Have you worked on any other titles before Albedon Wars?
No, Albedon Wars is my first game.
What is your role in the Albedon Wars team?
Lead Game Designer and Developer
What’s the idea behind starting a game such as Albedon Wars?
I know it may sound banal but we wanted to develop the game we would want to play. There are plenty of good card games out there but none of them had a good setting behind it, unless it was a spin off of some other game like Hearthstone. So we wanted to create a good card game which had something around it, and not only a simple ladder to climb as its only game mode.
What is everyone’s favorite race/tribe?
Mine are Ukuba
How are player decisions meant to change the course of the game?
They will affect the outcome of the main storyline, as well as the rewards they will get: different branches of the main story lead to find different cards and units.
Are any of the characters or quests based off people you know or experiences you’ve had?
No
Why did you decide to work on Albedon Wars?
I love playing. I started when I was 2 years old and I never stopped. I felt like I had the potential to do well in this sector and that I would enjoy this work a lot, so I decided to invest my time in this project.
What has been your favorite part about working on Albedon Wars?
The thing I enjoyed the most was developing and testing new cards and powers for units.
The biggest satisfaction was to see the Artificial Intelligence playing (and winning most of the games :P).
What is the big end goal for Albedon Wars? What’s next?
There is no scheduled “end” for Albedon Wars. Krenus is a world in constant evolution, and the game will have a lot of replayable content; at the moment the word next makes me think about a new card, a new dungeon, a new region… 😉
